UNICO R&D project:
E2E 5G Service Assurance (PoC) for Optimal SLA Compliance in Virtualised Operation Contexts
(2023-2025)

The challenge

The main technical challenge addressed by the project is the development of a diagnosis and prognosis capability for end-to-end service performance that is highly accurate and computationally efficient, considering not only response time but also training/adaptation time. The capability must produce results that can be assimilated into the service level agreement (SLA) metrics for comparison and the subsequent proposal of relevant corrective actions, which then need to be executed by the 5G/6G network service orchestration component.

The project

The project included the design and development of technology at Proof of Concept (PoC) level for end-to-end assurance of the 5G/6G network service level in a context of virtualised operations. The project required the use of data analysis models that predict the evolution of the quality of service (user experience) for the anticipation of corrective measures on the service orchestration component.

Our role

To achieve the objective of the project, Future Connections investigated and preliminarily implemented at PoC level (in order to determine its feasibility) a 5G/6G network service assurance technology equipped with ingestion, storage, and updating of service definitions, service lifecycle state identification, ingestion, storage, and/or updating of network service instances, time series data collection, alarm information collection, advanced data analysis functionality and degradation remediation.

The funding

The Unico R&D 6G 2023 aid programme was set up to finance the research infrastructure, acquisition of scientific-technical equipment and R&D projects in advanced 5G within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience plan in Spain.
