The project focused on the development of software technology that optimises the energy consumption of radio access sub-networks (RAN) in mobile communications networks (4G and preferably 5G, with potential application in 6G), irrespective of equipment manufacturer and Radio Access Technology (RAT) generation. It was inspired by the “Open RAN” paradigm, capable of combining considerable energy efficiency (and a parallel reduction in the costs of supplying radio resources) with a level of service that is barely affected.
