TM Forum Catalyst proofs of concept
Phase I, II and III
The challenge
The proliferation of technologies historically required a multitude of interfaces and a large EMS and NMS footprint to provide network access to the end customers. While welcoming technology innovation, the resulting high level of complexity was felt by operators as a real obstacle to the simplification and automation of the network necessary to improve its monetisation and business growth, while ensuring quality of service to end customers. The collaborative project addressed the challenge head-on, as highlighted in the TM Forum article, providing simplification of the network access through convergence, end-to-end closed loop assurance across various technologies and applications, and improved integration between marketplace and connectivity.
Our contribution
Our service assurance expertise assisted the project work over all its three phases by assuring reliable connectivity across a wide range of wired and wireless technologies such as satellite, software-defined wide area network (SDWAN), fibre and mobile. This guaranteed a higher level of customer satisfaction with improved and more reliable services, while allowing operators to monetise their investment.
The phases
Phase I (2022) – Converged Access for ODA
In the first phase of the project, the joint work successfully delivered an innovative reference model that simplified the convergence of multiple wired and wireless access technologies for ODA, improving business agility and interoperability across multiple applications and systems and accelerating time to market, while assuring quality of service and advancing the industry as a whole.
Our proof of concept was the winner of the ‘Best new Catalyst in show’ award as part of the TM Forum Awards Program ’22.
Phase II (2023) – Converged Access for ODA
In the second phase of the project, the collaborative work aimed at demonstrating the full value of converged access to operators and customers. By enabling end-to-end closed loop assurance across various technologies and applications, CSPs can automate the selection of the best technology for customer intent, optimise the assurance of SLA and improve service reliability and continuity not just during failure but also during impairment (congestion) of the service.
Our solution was nominated finalist in the ‘Business impact’ category, in the ‘Business growth’ category
and in the ‘Sustainability & impact on society’ category as part of the ‘ TM Forum Catalyst Awards Program ’23.
Phase III (2024) – CABOOM! Converged Access B2B2C Over ODA Marketplace
During the third phase of the project, the collaborative work aimed at opening up opportunities for operators to capitalise on the exploding global Connectivity as a Service (CaaS) market, given the increasing demand for immersive experiences. The project focused on removing complexity from the integration between marketplaces and connectivity by leveraging the existing assets from TM Forum open digital architecture (ODA) and the work of CAMARA. In addition, it incorporated in the model new technologies such as satellite and software-defined wide area network (SDWAN), to enable a variety of private network use cases such as stadium, airports, etc.
Our advanced solution was nominated finalist in the ‘Tech for good’ category
and in the ‘Attendees’ choice’ category as part of the TM Forum Catalyst Awards Program ’24.
